 What is the Thespian Society? The Thespian Society is an honor society that students are invited to join once they have participated in over 100 hours of work in extracurricular theatre at MHS. The Educational Theatre Association (the international parent organization of Thespians) has created a point system based on roles and hours worked in particular theatrical jobs. Thus, students earn points/hours through working on MHS productions as crew members or actors. All students are expected to complete a minimum of twenty hours on a crew as part of their initial 100 hours. Furthermore, students must complete a service component to be inducted into this prestigious international honor society. How do I become a Thespian? Get involved in Middleton Drama! For each crew hour you work or each production you are a part of you earn hours which add up to points. Make sure you fill out the crew hours sheet (kept in the shop - check in with Pat) and check in with Ms. Dando after each show to make sure your production work is recorded. Once you have spent roughly 100 hours working on productions (generally two full-length shows as an actor plus crew time or four one-act productions plus crew time or four shows as a crew member) you will receive an invitation to join Middleton's troupe 2960. When are Thespians inducted? We have two induction ceremonies every year. Typically, one ceremony is held in the fall semester and the second in the spring. All current Thespians and new inductees are invited to the celebration, and new members have the opportunity to perform if they choose to do so. How do I earn Honor Stars and Honor Bars? Once inducted into our Thespian troupe, you still continue to earn points for every production you work on. Every Thespian is expected to contribute at least ten hours of crew time per year regardless of other roles held. At the spring induction ceremony stars will be administered for each additional ten points earned, and upon graduation students receive a final honor plaque denoting their Thespian honor status. |
