Spring Play

"
Two
households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life;
Whose misadventured piteous overthrows
Do with their death bury their parents' strife.
The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love,
And the continuance of their parents' rage,
Which, but their children's end, nought could remove,
Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage;
The which if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend."

In the midst of an ancient feud young lovers meet and fall in love despite their warring families. The complications that arise in this world of bloody street brawls, secret meetings, and mysterious potions create the story for Romeo and Juliet. This production, set in 1920s New York when the Mafia was staking its claim in the U.S., explores the roles of the two families and their surrounding community as the tragedy of two young teens and their passionate lifestyle results in a glooming peace.

The classic story of star-crossed lovers will be brought to life on the PAC stage in March 2012.

Auditions for William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet will be held in the PAC on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
